Globe in a glass road show 2018

I had the opportunity to visit the globe in a glass road show organised by @sula_vineyards and @sofitelmumbaibkc where one could witness wine and other alcohols from around the world showcasing the best of brands. .
Wine being the upfront focus, one could taste wine from various countries and brands and have them stamped on the little passport that was handed upon entry.
Wine connoisseurs were available to guide you to select the wine that would go best with your tastebuds. They even explained which wines go best with various cuisines especially trying to focus on the wines that go well with Indian cuisine to inculcate it in our lifestyles.

I travelled round the world to experience wines , just by visiting one location a few weeks back. It couldn't be a better trip to understand about the wines across the world.

I began my journey of globe in a glass by beginning with Australia and New Zealand. Well I had a little bias there since I belong to Australia and also because it is the 8th largest wine producer of the world. Australia has over 100 varieties of grapes. While I found the wine to be fruiter I felt that they were slightly on the dryer side.

Moving to Italy and France , it is clear that they are the masters of wine making. The wines were richer and smoother than the rest. @ferraritrento introduced to their Italian sparkling wine whose taste I still recall. Just like the world can't decide, I couldn't decide either which was the better one but I guess it's all about the cuisine or occasion you go for.
Next was Spain, the wines had a very different flavour and texture. They were lighter and sweeter, I guess wonderful to go with the Indian cuisine.

Well I could lie that i covered every country but I did have to go back sober so I concluded with our Indian wine - Sula to end the tasting. I love the desert wine that Sula offered, a clear alternative to when you want alcohol and a desert combined. They even have a new range of wines, one of which is the sparkling red wine which seemed to be like a lighter bublier version of a sangria.

Wedmegood.com - The significance of brides across India

According to the weatherly cycle, its winter but according to the whats going on around cycle, it’s the season of weddings. We have witnessed some multifarious weddings around us lately. From sportsmen to Bollywood stars, love has bought them closer and celebrations have been witnessed in the grandest way. What differiates the weddings is the style and how different cultures have made weddings worth the extravaganza. From hindu-christian , sindhi-south Indian, Punjabi-sikh and so on each wedding has been a totally novel affair. The importance here that I am pertaining to is that these cultures embark certain ceremonies that have value and much more meaning than just being a glamorous evening. The significance of each bit of a wedding means something that we forget or don’t know over the years. Whether it’s the kalire for a Punjabi bride or the veil for the Christian bride, they are much more than a wedding fashion accessory. Wedmegood is one platform where cultures and traditions are given importance and its one website where Indian marriages from all over are taken care of. Lets find out what some of the wedding accessories really mean.

To begin with, the popular and extravagant punjabi and North Indian brides, The kalire or the tassle like ornament is worn by a punjabi bride. The kalire are given by the maternal uncle and symbolise the shape of coconut which stands for prosperity and that the newly wed woman doesn't run out of food. Along with the kalire are the chooda, a set of 21 bangles traditionally in red and white and made of elephant teeth is known to bring fertility and increase bond among the couple.

Down in the south, where brides are dressed like goddesses since they represent goddess lakshmi coming into a new family.
In the southern part of India, Tamil brides are known to carry a beautiful kanjeevaram saree.Legend has it that the Kanchi silk weavers are descendants of Sage Markanda, who was considered to be the master weaver for the Gods themselves. Therefore wearing a kanjeevaram is like having a blessing. South Indian brides usually wear gold on the day as it is a way of having Goddess Lakshmi bless the marriage, The brides wear a jewellery called jadainagam. The Jadai nagam, of south India literally means the hair serpent. It is worn by brides to decorate the braided hair.
The rakkadi at the back of the head in the shape of the sun, symbolic of brilliance and power is followed by the crescent moon, evocative of calm and peace. The third piece is the fragrant thazhambu flower (screw pine)
Then comes the ruby and diamond-studded many headed divine cobra Ananta below whom are seen three rows of the cobra's coils. From here the jewellery for the braided hair starts. Designed in the form of flowers and buds; It consists of separate pieces interlaced to form a supple ornament. Towards the end of the braid it bursts out into 3 silk tassels held together by encrusted bells; the silk tassels too have undergone a change. Now they are done in pearls, gold chains or even diamond strings, depending on the expensive presentation of the Jadai nagam. (credit- manini’s blog¬¬)
Odiyannams or the kamarbandh are worn to keep the saree intact and are known to come in temple designs again to seek the blessings of God.

In the West, the Maharashtrians , brides are subtle and elegant. A saree in yellow colour is often chosen. A mundavalya is a thread emblished with pearls is tied on the forehead of the bride and bridegroom which shows that both of them are ready to get married. The golden cups that the mangalsutra holds in the center is placed directly over the woman’s Anahat Chakra or the fourth center flow of spiritual enery in a human body. The void in the golden cups represents draining of a woman’s emotion, sentiment and negative disposition of her body and mind. This ultimately takes the woman beyond karma or her worldly duties, rendering the ornament into something more powerful than a mere piece of jewellery. Vaaki and nath are the two other things that complete the bride, ofcourse not missing out on the flamboyant paithani saree.
In parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan, A gharchola saree is worn which literally means the 'outfit for home' is gifted by the mother in law as a welcome gift. Along with that is a Panetar  saree or lehenga given by the maternal uncle. All of these have bandhani patterns which are known to bring good luck to a marriage since 4000 BC and the Ajanta walls have depictions of women wearing them. Rajasthani brides also wear a borla which is known to protect the women from evil.

Towards to East, we have the Bengali bride.
A Bengali bride wears a beautiful red and rich banarasi saree with the traditional topor. Topor is the white crown or mukut made from Sholapith that a malakar makes. The mythological story behind it is that Lord Shiva wanted to wear a mukut for his wedding and hence asked lord vishwakarma to make one. Hence Bengalis wear it as a good luck from Lord Shiva and Parvati. Pola and shankha bangles accomply the look which are red and white bangles.

In Christianity, the bride wears a veil along with the white dress. The veil signifies purity or at times even the virginity of the bride. It is like a symbol of beginning a journey of the two people. A Christian bride may also wear something blue on the wedding which shows purity and love , also acts like a protection from the evil eye.

A Islamic bride in a sharara usually chooses green as it is an auspicious colour. The bride also wears a gold coin wrapped in a piece of cloth tied by the mother in law as a welcome to the family.

International Tea Day

It is international tea day today and I couldn't resist putting up this image which has been taken by my friend who captures amazing pictures @kalyanii.thakare .
Tea is my favourite beverage and I think it is the lifeline for the majority of people reading this. From the British high tea to the Mumbai cutting chai , from an early morning milk tea-day starter to a relaxing chamomile before bed and from youngster's version of ice tea to the fitness freak's green tea, tea is an essential commodity for everyone. But do you know that once tea was considered as an exquisite medicinal beverage. It was protected and preserved to the extent that it would be locked in a chest and only one person had the key!

Let's talk about how tea actually came in our lives. The story of tea goes like this, Chinese emperor Shen Nung was having boiled water in the open where it was windy and some leaves came in the cup and turned the colour of water. Upon tasting it the emperor found it delicious and hence began consuming. Other stories tell about how it was discovered to be beneficial and non poisonous and would also help if someone consumed anything poisonous.

But tea is not just used as a beverage, I use it for beauty purposes so many times. Let's find out how you can use tea in other prudent ways!

ЁЯМ╕ Tea bags that you have just used can be put on eyes (they can be cool or slightly warm) to ease off the puffiness and make yourself feel refreshed. They can also be used to treat sunburns by cooling them and placing them on the affected areas
ЁЯМ╕ Green tea is a natural toner especially for oily skin. Just use some weak light black tea or green tea in place of the bottled toner.
ЁЯМ╕ Tea has anti oxidants that help in anti ageing and anti bacterial properties that help fight acne and other skin problems
ЁЯМ╕ White tea contains elements that help in making the teeth white
ЁЯМ╕ matcha tea powder can be an amazing face pack as it contains chlorophyll that brightens up the skin.

Popxo is now in 6 languages!

Popxo is now available in 6 languages and therefore I thought of posting something about my experience with learning languages. What I experienced is exactly what popxo felt and I'm proud that it went a step above the rest by having the site in all these wonderful languages.
.
.
.
I ensue from a background where I have had a chance to transverse in India and abroad, in this process of growing up, I had the opportunity to meet people from various regions and it has broadened my horizons. I believe that knowledge is experience, the more you know about the world, the more you get perspectives. This can be learnt by understanding the uniqueness of each culture around us, right from food, dressing, values and of course language.
India is a country with 22 languages and 720 dialects which is the prime reason why we have such a rich heritage and history. Though as hard as it may sound , learning a language can actually be easy as it becomes a beautiful instrument to value our traditions.
Hailing from Delhi , as I speak in Hindi and punjabi I feel lucky that I learnt more languages across the journey that has made me respect our country more.
I now reside in Mumbai and see myself talking fluently in Marathi which makes me feel like I am a part of this state and people appreciate the efforts of understanding what Marathi is about. Knowing Marathi has also made me understand the wonderful music and prayers that the state offers. From dilli wali to Mumbaichi mulgi, I love how language has not bought barriers but actually let them down to understand the people and traditions better!

Reliance Jewels Thane store launch

Reliance Jewels is here with another store in Thane at Gokhale road.
The store gave us an insight into the best of their collection.
Yami Gautum graced the event which was then followed by customers flowing in.
Prudent diva wishes you all the very best!

They were knd to let us try out the best of their collection. I was dazzled with their diamond collection I must confess!
The collection that is here is mainly from the 'Aarohi' collection and the delicate pieces from diamond bridal jewellery
I also tried one of their most expensive necklace that is a modern raani haar all filled with diamonds, pearls and a centre ruby...
The have another collection called Aabhar which is more wearable and affordable

Here is showcasing some of the most exquisite pieces from the Reliance Jewels collection. What I like about them is firstly that they might seem heavy but they are super light. Available in 22 carat and 18 carat , these statement necklaces and bangles are what represents the Indian tradition.
I had the chance to talk to one of their designers, Neha who told me more about their patterns. She explained that the collection in gold is inspired by temple patterns and the goddesses of our country while the diamond pieces are inspired by the 'Mandala designs' and the 'Boroque architecture' from the 17th century in England.

Oriflame 23rd anniversary event

Its nearly a year now that Prudent Diva has been committed to writing about fashion and beauty. Through the journey I felt like life is not just talking about fashion and make up, what rather important is the confidence of women. Such feelings of mine couldnt be illustrated more better by the event that I attended lately by Oriflame.

It was a 23rd anniversary celebration a few days back and the members decided to make it as grand as they could. As i entered, i felt the feminine vibe all dressed up in the celebratory red theme. Red as they said, is the colour of december signifying christmas and the season of marriages.
I imagined the event to be a beauty event featuring products like any other beauty company does, but this felt more than that, it was like a annual day for the women there who live their life to the fullest and are appreciated for their contributions towards being independent by Oriflame.

The show had women who are at a senior position inspiring the newbies to gear up and get ready to earn money. Oriflame also offers oppurtunities to visit places outside India to experience the place and be a part of the training and it was a wonderful session by them talking about how they earned their opportunity. What here interested me was that they were motivated and a desire was inculcated amongst women to think of themselves beyond home makers.
Along with the tips and tricks were the discussion of the incentives they would be getting this month and the coming year.

There was also a little fashion show showcasing the new collection with no profesional models but the lovely women associated with Oriflame. The memorable part of the event was the new launch of perfumes that were launched by spraying generously among the crowd which made it feel mesmerizing.
There was dance, music and a ceremony awarding all the achievers of last month.
It was an event filled with optimism, love and respect for everyone, and i wish Oriflame all the best and thanks for inviting me over.

Kiko Milano review

Kiko Milano came with an exciting buy 3 get 3 sale this Black Friday. This gave me a chance to embody how wonderful the brand is. I have a huge collection and for that ill like to give credit to its fine quality and because it is one of the few brands that has great offers and sales.
Here below is my collection and some of my favourites are highlighted below

  Prudent Diva's Kiko favourites
ЁЯОА Lip Gloss pencil
A super fine gliding soft lipstick with lots of shimmer. It's non sticky and in wonderful pink and gold colours. It's a perfect mix of a lipstick , balm and gloss all combined.
ЁЯОА Coloured mascara
I got this turquoise mascara  which is super cool. It has pigmented colour that actually shows. And this is usually in discount during sales so if you are lucky you might get it for Rs 300/-
ЁЯОА Ultra tech mascara
Kiko Milano has amazing mascara , probably the best that I have come across and they do their work perfectly. It's a must buy if you are thinking of visiting the store.

And this is what I got from the buy 3 get 3 sale!
